Buc-ee's Sets November 9 Groundbreaking for Lafayette I-10 Store |
The 74,000-square-foot travel center is planned for I-10 and Louisiana Avenue, with more than 200 jobs expected |

Lafayette is one step closer to getting its own Buc-ee's, with a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for Monday, November 9, 2026.
The Texas-based travel-center chain plans to begin work at Interstate 10 and Louisiana Avenue, a location that could become a major stop for drivers crossing Acadiana.
The ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m., with local elected officials expected to attend.
After years of anticipation, the announcement gives Lafayette residents a concrete construction milestone rather than another rumor about when the famous beaver-branded store might arrive.
What is planned for the Lafayette Buc-ee's?
The proposed travel center is expected to cover approximately 74,000 square feet and include 120 fueling positions.
That is a substantial footprint for a convenience-store concept, although Buc-ee's is known for operating on a scale far beyond a typical gas station.
Inside, shoppers can expect the chain's familiar selection of barbecue, fudge, kolaches, jerky, fresh pastries and its signature Beaver Nuggets.
The company also promotes its large, regularly maintained restrooms and extensive food and beverage choices.
For local travelers, the development promises another place to refuel, grab a meal and take a break without leaving the I-10 corridor far behind.
Jobs and a possible opening date
The company says the Lafayette location is expected to create more than 200 full-time jobs.
Those positions could bring new opportunities for workers in retail, food preparation, maintenance and store operations.
An opening is tentatively anticipated in early 2028, although construction schedules can change.
Groundbreaking marks the beginning of the project, not the opening of the store.
Drivers should not expect to stop for brisket sandwiches or fuel at the Lafayette location this November.
How does Lafayette fit into Buc-ee's Louisiana expansion?
Lafayette is not the only Louisiana community awaiting a Buc-ee's.
Work began in October 2025 on a similarly sized travel center in Ruston, with that location projected to open in 2027.
The Lafayette announcement would give the company a high-profile presence along one of the Gulf South's busiest east-west travel routes.
The chain began in Lake Jackson, Texas, in 1982 and has expanded across multiple states in recent years.
That broader growth helps explain why the Lafayette project has attracted attention from residents well beyond the city limits.
What happens next?
The November 9 ceremony is the next public milestone, followed by the much longer process of building and preparing the site for customers.
Residents interested in hiring announcements or an official opening date should watch for updates directly from the company as construction advances.
Until then, the important development is that Lafayette's long-discussed Buc-ee's project now has a scheduled groundbreaking.
