Celebrating Joyce Gaymon and her work with Camp Inspire |

For families on Lafayette’s Northside, summer can bring a difficult question: Where can children spend their days without putting too much pressure on the household budget?
Joyce Gaymon saw that need and created Camp Inspire, an effort to make summer care more affordable and enriching for local children.
Her work will be celebrated at the sixth annual Undercurrent Awards in Lafayette on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026.
The event honors this year’s Wavemakers, including people whose work makes a difference in the community.
Gaymon brings the perspective of a veteran and longtime public servant to a problem many parents know well.
Summer childcare is not a luxury for families trying to balance work, costs and their children’s need for a good place to grow.
Through Camp Inspire, Gaymon has focused on giving Northside families another option when the school year ends.
That matters in Lafayette, where a child’s summer opportunities can depend heavily on what a family can afford.
Her response turns a familiar community concern into practical help.
The awards offer a chance to hear Gaymon’s story while recognizing others who have stepped up for their neighbors.
David Begnaud and Do Good Crew are hosting and co-producing the celebration.
Tickets start at $25, with Premium and VIP options also available.
That entry price gives residents a way to take part in a night centered on service close to home.
Nominations and local support have helped bring the Wavemaker celebration together for its sixth year.
For Gaymon, the recognition puts attention on the children and families at the heart of her work.
Finding affordable care can shape an entire summer for a household.
Camp Inspire reflects a straightforward belief: children deserve meaningful experiences, and parents deserve options they can realistically use.
At this year’s Undercurrent Awards, Lafayette has an opportunity to celebrate that kind of hands-on commitment. |

David Begnaud hosting too? Ok this is gonna be a good night
$25 tickets is actually pretty reasonable for something like this
Joyce deserves every bit of this. Camp Inspire kept my nephew busy all last summer and it was a blessing for my sister.
