Don Juanz Baja Beach Tacos Coming to Lafayette, Louisiana |
A look at the Don Juanz menu and Baja fish tacos |

Don Juanz Baja Beach Tacos is planning a Lafayette location at 2011 Kaliste Saloom Road, in the former Super Chix space across from River Ranch.
For diners along Kaliste Saloom, the arrival would bring a seafood-forward taco spot to a familiar corner.
The Louisiana-based restaurant traces its inspiration to founder Don O’Byrne’s travels through Baja California while he lived in California during the 1980s.
He later opened the concept in Bossier City in 2006, building a menu around the coastal flavors he remembered.
That backstory gives the Lafayette expansion more personality than a typical restaurant turnover, though the food will have to make its own case locally.
The Don Juanz menu centers on made-to-order Mexican dishes, with fresh tortillas, scratch-made salsas and seafood among its defining features.
Its Baja Beach Fish Taco pairs seared yellowfin tuna with cabbage, cilantro, jack cheese and a creamy lime-cilantro dressing.
Diners looking for Baja fish tacos can also consider the El Dorado Taco, which combines mahi-mahi with mango salsa.
Other choices include shrimp tacos, skirt-steak street tacos and carnitas topped with grilled pineapple and honey-tequila chipotle sauce.
Bowls, quesadillas, nachos, salads and burritos give groups options beyond tacos, while Baja Lime Pie offers a citrusy finish.
The restaurant also describes lighter and gluten-free preparations, although diners with dietary needs should check their options when ordering.
Plans for the Lafayette space include a full bar, custom booths, updated lighting and bathrooms, and textured wall finishes.
Outside, a proposed pergola would replace the existing yellow patio covering.
That patio change could give the former chicken restaurant a noticeably different feel, especially for diners headed out near River Ranch.
An opening date has not been announced in the available project details, so there is no firm timetable for a first taco run.
Until then, the menu offers a glimpse of what could be a welcome new choice for Lafayette’s seafood-loving crowd. |

Bossier City has had this place since 2006 and we're just now getting one? Better late than never I guess.
Super Chix was never really my thing so I'm glad something new is going in there. Seafood tacos near River Ranch sounds like a good fit for that area.
That mahi-mahi taco with mango salsa has my attention. Hope the portions are reasonable for the price.
