Evangeline Thruway Neighborhood Work Moves Ahead in Lafayette |
Redevelopment efforts focus on residents while I-49 Connector discussions continue |

For Lafayette residents along the Evangeline Thruway, neighborhood investment is moving on a separate track from the debate over the I-49 Connector.
An Acadiana News First report describes redevelopment-team work focused on walkability, local services and the daily needs of people living along the corridor.
Landscaping on 7th and 12th streets is among the current efforts, while work on MLK Jr. Drive is expected to finish in December.
The team advises officials on investment in historic neighborhoods, including Sterling Grove, LaPlace and McComb-Veazey.
It does not control the interstate project, which falls under other government authorities.
That distinction matters when evaluating announcements: a neighborhood improvement is not confirmation that the Connector has been approved.
The redevelopment team’s next meeting is expected in January 2027.
