New strip center development in Lafayette, Louisiana |
Thai restaurant relocation and retail space for lease |

A possible Thai restaurant relocation could give a planned strip center off Johnston Street a familiar Lafayette name.
Renderings for the development at 101 Gerald Drive show space for Bangkok Thai, which currently operates at 3904 Johnston St.
The move is not yet confirmed, but the plans offer a glimpse of what could take shape near one of the city’s busiest corridors.
The proposed strip center development totals 9,660 square feet and includes several storefronts rather than a single restaurant space.
Two building permits issued by Lafayette Consolidated Government cover work valued at just over $2.3 million.
The property owner is listed as 4953 Johnston LLC, and a person associated with that company is also listed as an officer of Bangkok Thai.
That connection points toward a possible move, although the owners have not publicly clarified their plans.
A listing advertises 6,600 square feet of retail space for lease, with room for retail, office, restaurant or service businesses.
For nearby customers, the project raises a practical question: how much of their familiar dining routine might change?
Bangkok Thai has operated at its current address since about 2010, giving the restaurant a long-standing presence along Johnston Street.
Before that, the location housed Pimon Thai, which later moved to another site along the same corridor.
Pimon Thai opened at the former Bangkok Thai site in 1997, following decades when Stop & Shop Bar-B-Q occupied the property.
That history makes the potential relocation more than a simple change of address for diners who know the area.
The bigger shift could be the addition of several small-business spaces close to an established commercial route.
Still, plans can change, and neither a restaurant opening date nor a tenant lineup for the remaining storefronts has been confirmed.
For now, the permits and leasing plans suggest a new chapter for this pocket of Lafayette, with Bangkok Thai potentially at its center. |
