North Lafayette Is Getting a New Kind of Library |
The planned Northeast Regional Library will bring books, technology, outdoor space and community gathering areas to the historic Holy Rosary Institute campus. |

North Lafayette is getting more than a new library. It’s getting a new gathering place.
Lafayette Public Library recently unveiled the design for its planned Northeast Regional Library, a 20,533-square-foot facility on 6.5 acres that aims to blend books, technology, creativity and outdoor space.
The plans include children’s activity areas, teen spaces, a STEAM learning area, a high-tech maker space, study rooms, quiet reading areas and 37 public computer stations. Outside, visitors can expect walking paths and even a music garden.
The branch is planned as part of the historic Holy Rosary Institute campus, giving the project an added neighborhood connection. What makes this one worth watching is the scope. This isn’t simply a place to check out a novel and head home. The design positions the library as a community hub where families can learn, students can study, kids can explore technology and neighbors can spend time together.
For a part of Lafayette that has long pushed for more investment and amenities, the new branch could become one of the Northside’s most important public spaces.
And yes, there will still be plenty of books. |

that music garden has me curious. Never seen a library do something like that before
The Holy Rosary campus connection is a nice touch. That place means a lot to people who grew up in that neighborhood. Glad they kept it tied to something with history instead of just dropping a generic building somewhere.
grew up around Holy Rosary and never thought id see something like this come to that campus. Long overdue for our side of town
