Small Steps, Better Days: Make Room for a Lafayette Walk |
A short daily stroll is a manageable start toward a more active routine. |

Between work, school pickups and everything else on the calendar, exercise can feel like another appointment we haven’t scheduled.
But a healthier routine can begin with something simple: a walk.
Try ten minutes around your neighborhood after breakfast or before supper, choosing a safe route and a time that suits the weather.
Put your shoes near the door, invite someone along and make the starting point easy.
The CDC’s adult activity guidelines recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate activity weekly, plus muscle-strengthening activities on two days.
That movement can be divided into smaller sessions; some activity is better than none.
A short stroll is a starting point, rather than the whole weekly goal.
For a change of scenery, Moncus Park’s visitor guide lists paved paths, wooded trails, accessibility information and parking details.
Choose the terrain that fits your comfort and mobility.
Keep water handy, start at a manageable pace and build gradually.
If you need help fitting movement into a busy day, browse the CDC’s activity benefits and guidance.
This week’s challenge: pick three days, choose your route and follow through.
You don’t need a perfect fitness plan to take the next useful step. |

150 minutes a week sounds like a lot until you break it down into smaller chunks. That part actually helped me think about it differently.
Moncus Park is great for this honestly. The paved paths are easy on the knees and there's usually enough shade in the morning to make it worth it.
