Quote Of The Day

Moncus Park is giving Lafayette residents a midweek reason to unwind.

Every Wednesday evening, the park's First Horizon Amphitheater hosts a free outdoor yoga class from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, nestled within the beloved 100-acre green space on Johnston Street.

Instructor Kayla Duhon leads each session, welcoming everyone from first-timers to seasoned practitioners.

Part of the park's Fit for All wellness series, the class requires no registration, no cost, and no prior experience — just a mat and comfortable clothes.

The open-air amphitheater, framed by mature oaks and open sky, delivers a sense of calm that few indoor studios can match.

Drawing nearly half a million visitors annually, Moncus Park has made free summer programming a true cornerstone of Acadiana community life.

The next session is Wednesday, July 29, 2026 — and it's quickly becoming a weekly ritual worth keeping.

Joke Of The Day

A tourist in Lafayette asked a local, "How do you guys handle the heat and humidity down here?" The local thought for a moment and said, "Well, first you stop fightin' it."

"And the second step?" "There is no second step. That took us about forty years."

Something rare is coming to downtown Lafayette — and the local arts community is already taking notice.

"Swell: In Concert" is a Broadway-style concert experience set to make its live debut at the Acadiana Center for the Arts on West Vermilion Street.

The show is set in a fictional Louisiana coastal town, weaving together themes of love, community, and the ever-present threat of coastal erosion and extreme weather.

It is, at its heart, a story only Louisiana could tell.

Behind it are Lafayette-born sisters Chasah and Charliese West, self-taught songwriters who built this production from the ground up — starting with a concept album and bringing it to life with local cast members and live performance.

Performances are scheduled for July 31 and August 1 as part of the AcA Spotlight Theater and Dance Series.

This is world-class creative work — born, built, and celebrated right here in Acadiana.

Hot, Humid Week Ahead for Lafayette

Acadiana's summer is digging in its heels this week, with Lafayette baking under a relentless sun and daytime highs stubbornly parked in the mid-90s through Thursday. The humidity will make it feel closer to triple digits, so early-morning errands and outdoor work are your best friends right now — the afternoon heat is no place to linger.

Midweek brings a familiar shift as the atmosphere loads up with moisture and instability. Scattered thunderstorms will fire off Wednesday and continue popping up through the weekend, arriving fast and loud with brief downpours, lightning, and the occasional gusty wind. Not every neighborhood catches rain every day, but every neighborhood could.

Sunday stands out as the stormiest day of the stretch, with temperatures finally conceding a few degrees into the lower 90s. If weekend plans involve festivals, crawfish boils, or farmers market runs, build in some flexibility

...these South Louisiana summer storms respect no schedule.
