The stalled Sunshine Protection Act in the U.S. Senate has left supporters touting the benefits of longer, sunlit evenings for families and businesses, while critics warn of safety risks with darker winter mornings.

Stormier, Slightly Cooler Week Ahead for Lafayette |
Lafayette is starting the week with plenty of August heat, but increasing rain chances should bring temperatures down a bit as we head toward the weekend.
Tuesday and Wednesday will remain hot and humid, with highs in the mid-90s and scattered afternoon thunderstorms possible. The bigger change arrives Thursday, when rain chances jump significantly. The National Weather Service currently puts Thursday's chance of precipitation around 80%, followed by a 60% chance Friday.
Those increased clouds and storms will help knock temperatures down, with highs expected to settle into the upper 80s to low 90s by Friday and through the weekend.
If you're making outdoor plans, keep an umbrella nearby and watch the radar—especially during the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday both carry chances for scattered thunderstorms, but neither currently looks like a complete washout.
Overall, expect a very Acadiana-like week: hot, humid, and increasingly stormy, with some welcome relief from the extreme heat by week's end. |
